75th anniversary
Celebrating 75 years

1935 – 2010
The De La Warr Pavilion was 75 years old in 2010. Three key events marked this anniversary throughout the year.
On August Bank Holiday we invited as many people as possible to help us re-create an iconic photo that was published in the Daily Mirror in 1936.
Over 2,000 people turned up and enjoyed a fabulous party. The event also included performances from local singers and musicians, dancing to 75 years of music and tea for everyone – kindly sponsored by Yorkshire Tea.
In September, the De La Warr Pavilion President The Duchess of Cornwall attended a reception at the Pavilion where she met a number of our Patrons, Supporters and Members, cut our birthday cake and was presented with a copy of the 75th Anniversary photograph.
She also visited Antony Gormley’s Critical Mass on our roof terrace.
On December 12th the Pavilion presented a performance of Carmina Burana, written by Carl Orff in the same year that the Pavilion opened at the height of the German Modernist Movement.
It was performed in 2010 by the 120-piece Philharmonia Chorus. A champagne reception was enjoyed before the concert and there was the unveiling of a new plaque by Earl and Countess De La Warr to commemorate the occasion.
