Ethical Supplies
We try, where possible, to use local and seasonal produce to support local suppliers and reduce our food miles. We also aim to use organic and high quality products from ethical sources. Behind illycaffè‘s commitment to sustainable development lies its unwavering search for quality, pursued throughout the coffee journey, from bean to cup. And the better, more appreciated and desired coffee in the cup is, the greater the resources and the opportunities for development and growth in the countries growing it. This is why illycaffè believes sustainability affects the whole production process and everything contributing to it: lands, people, environment and technology. Both in the producing countries and in Trieste. It begins with the countries that produce green coffee, where illycaffè works directly with the growers, passing on its know-how, helping to improve cultivation, purchasing the coffee and rewarding a commitment to quality. It continues in Trieste, where coffee production machinery and methods are constantly improved to steadily reduce the environmental impact. Knowledge acquired through the laboratories and collaboration with universities and research centers is transferred back to coffee producing countries in the shape of new techniques for sustainable farming. But illy‘s commitment is also to its employees, who work in a vibrant, stimulating company; it is attentive to their needs and their professional growth. And of course to the customers and consumers who enjoy the advantages of serving and enjoying an excellent coffee.
We also use Fairtrade products... "The Bexhill-on-Sea Fairtrade Town Committee are very pleased that our flagship Pavilion has won the Fairtrade Cuppathon in East Sussex for selling the highest total of Fairtrade cups of tea and coffee during One World Week in October 2007. The marvellous total of 1250 cuppas is a great tribute to the De La Warr Pavilion and the people of Bexhill who are selecting the Fairtrade products which they enjoy and which brings justice and joy to the poor producers and their families and villages in the developing world at the same time. It is a great example of acting locally while thinking globally and helping to make poverty history for many. Congratulations to the De La Warr and many thanks to their staff and customers who make this happen."
