'CE' from Toptable says Visit Britain & Yahoo have just listed us in the top 10 quirky restaurants, alongside The Fat Duck, the Alnwick Treehouse and the Witchery, Edinburgh - what great company to be in!
Popped in for a quick late lunch on Easter Sunday unsure what to expect. Obviously the De La Warr Pavilion is a miracle restored and has raised Bexhill's profile dramatically. The restaurant clearly throws down a challenge to every other local eating place and everyone will be the better off as a result. We only had two dishes: superbly cooked salmon on a bed of linguine in a light fishy sauce enlivened with fresh peas and tiny pulses. I'd expected a traditional pasta dish with a salmon sauce so was surprised and delighted. Wife had panfried cod wrapped in parma ham with beautifully cooked vegetables which put to shame what the highly rated Mirabelle in Eastbourne served up in an otherwise excellent meal the night before. Excellent sparkling wine served in 125 and 250 cl glasses -- the latter cost little more than the third of the whole bottle cost!!! Will return for the full menu as soon as possible.
The food is outstanding most of the time, highlights are the Risottos, particularly one that was served in an individual parmesan Basket. You can get a very good Roast on Sundays ( through the winter at least ) , they appear to make the most of local ingredients and that includes wines too.

Funky Venues Review "The restaurant is on the first floor and features open air balconies with fine sea views and excellent food and wine with a strong emphasis on local produce." I enjoy a parsnip soup with warming cinnamon, the prelude to a cracking Sunday roast of pork, featuring a chunky apple sauce and (unusually these days, I find) decent roast potatoes." "County specialities on the menu includes Rye bay scallop salad; Southdowns lamb chops; Harveys beer battered fish & chips and Sussex pond pudding; the cafe serves a selection of muffins, homemade cakes and a mean brew."
"Lunchtimes are lively affairs with a brisk trade and a buzzing atmosphere. Head Chef Peter Zimoch prepares cuisine which is basically British-based with European influences, the food is imaginative, with intelligent use of fresh ingredients."
