In partnership with Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance and Rother District Council, the De La Warr Pavilion presents The Musical Matinee Club.
A season of FREE, relaxed film screenings* featuring everything you love about the movies – thrilling musical numbers, dazzling costumes, stunning sets and some special additional mischievous fun that allows you to bring the action on screen to life in the De La Warr Pavilion Auditorium!
*Relaxed screenings are specifically designed to welcome people who may benefit from a more informal environment, including with those living with dementia and disabilities. Auditorium lights will be partially up throughout, there’s a relaxed attitude to noise, audience members are free to move around and leave the auditorium whenever they like. There is a quiet area in the Auditorium Foyer for anyone who needs a break during the screening. Our staff and volunteers have attended “Dementia Friends” awareness sessions recently, run by the Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance, therefore will sensitively and respectfully welcome people living with dementia and their carers.
From September – November The Musical Matinee Club will be hosted by Suzy Harvey – a professional actor, with many years’ experience of working with people living with dementia and care providers. She is passionate about improving people’s quality of life through creativity, reminiscence and laughter. She enables people living with dementia in care homes to remake old films, with the Community Interest Company Ladder To The Moon, and facilitates play in childrens’ hospitals as her Giggle Doctor character Dr.Dovetail with Theodora Children’s Charity. She recently mentored Nina Conti during the production of the BBC documentary Nina Conti Clowning Around.
