Glowing neon text spells "De La La" with a playful vibe, held by hands against a dark backdrop. "Art Sundays" logo in the top right corner.

This weekend at Art Sunday, all are invited to light up their imaginations with Neon Word Puppets! Inspired by the glowing, fragmented words in Jaki Irvine’s neon sculpture exhibition, we’ll be playing with language, sound, and colour.

Choose your favourite word, or even your name, and turn it into a playful puppet using fluorescent oil pastels, tape, and card. Break up the letters to create fun new sound-words, or make up words that sound like sounds! De La Warr could become DE LA LA! Or Maya, the name of our very own Head of Learning, could become YA YA MMM!

Then photograph your word puppets under one of our UV black light torches to watch your words glow, just like real neon! It’s a colourful, hands-on workshop for all ages so come create your own glowing language at Neon Word Puppets!

What are Art Sundays?

Art Sundays are free drop-in creative workshops that take place on the first and third Sunday of every month, open to all ages.

Each week, the workshops will be led by an artist taking inspiration from our exhibitions programme.

You can find Art Sundays in the Rooftop foyer from 2pm – 4.30pm.

We look forward to seeing you there.
