Colourful weavings arranged together against a wooden background.

This week at Art Sunday we’re taking inspiration from Sayan Chanda and his exhibition How Many Fires, How Many Suns, How Many Dawns?, currently on view at De La Warr Pavilion.

Chanda’s work uses textiles, weaving, stitching and quilting to bring together stories, myths and handmade traditions. He often works with fibres and fabrics to create sculptural forms that feel both ancient and contemporary, exploring ideas of memory, protection and shared histories.

For our activity this week, we’ll be trying out weaving ourselves. Using the materials provided, we’ll experiment with simple weaving techniques, layering colours, textures and patterns to create something unique.

No rules, no pressure – just weave, weave, weave!

What are Art Sundays?

Art Sundays are free drop-in creative workshops that take place on the first and third Sunday of every month, open to all ages.

Each week, the workshops will be led by an artist taking inspiration from our exhibitions programme.

You can find Art Sundays in the Rooftop foyer from 2pm – 4.30pm.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Art Sundays have been kindly supported by the Isabel Blackman foundation.
