Roving sound artist Mary Hooper and her team have microphones at the ready to talk to you about your memorabilia and record the memories it provokes.. Mary will be using the recordings to create a layered sound piece that will go into the archive.

If you don’t have anything to bring – just bring yourself! We’d love to hear, and record, how you, your family and friends have used the building over the years. We’ll also have some giant graphics and a volunteer who can help jog your memory – your contribution can be as long or short as you like.

I worked at the De La Warr Pavilion in the late seventies in the self service cafe. Our trays were washed in an industrial dishwasher and left to dry horizontally. This meant that each tray was wet with condensation when you picked it up. Some might say it seemed the trays were dried in a rainforest. And thus a standup sketch called “The Deathstar Canteen” was born.

– A story from Suzy Eddie Izzard, De La Warr Pavilion Honorary Patron.
