A fun and creative introduction to ceramics for young people with artist Carla Wright. Focussing on a meditative approach to clay, whilst exploring the momentum and movement of the ceramic process.
This event is at Common Clay, in Beeching Road Studios, and will run from 2-4.30pm on Monday 24 July. This event is for ages 14-18 years.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Carla Wright is an artist living and working in East Sussex. She makes ceramic sculpture & wall-based works that explore community architecture & places of gathering in predominantly working-class neighbourhoods, centred around public spaces – communal buildings and playgrounds.
Motifs and fragments of modernist climbing frames, concrete steppingstones & references to community centre murals appear throughout the work. Her practice is informed by growing up around this type of architecture and responding through ceramic ‘drawings’ and sculptural assemblages – interconnecting grouping of objects, supporting, interacting and playing with each other.
She is the founder of Common Clay – a ceramics studio in Bexhill-on-sea, set up to provide a shared, open and experimental making space for a community of artists working with clay, alongside workshops for local residents.
