More about Laughta

Laughta is a multi-talented musician, producer & presenter who grew up in London, and started her career rapping in the UK Grime Scene.  Born in Nigeria and of Lebanese descent, Laughta’s multi-cultural background paints her unique style, however it’s her wordplay and flow levels that’s got the scene pushing for her.

With her critically-acclaimed single “Flex” making BBC R1Xtra’s ‘Track of the Week‘ as well as added to Spotify’s biggest Grime Shutdown male-dominated playlist at #4, banger “Keeping it Grimey” being made BBC Radio 1 DJ Target’s #UKUnsigned track, and Ghost making the Kiss Fresh playlist Laughta continues to make serious waves as one the UK’s brightest stars, firmly in her own lane.

Laughta’s natural charisma and knack for spotting upcoming talent landed her the ‘LaughtaGas Show’ show on Reprezent Radio where she champions upcoming artists and commits to supporting 50/50 Female and Male artists in her show.  Laughta also featured on BBC3 TV show, ‘Galdem Sugar’ follows the lives of 5 strong women in the Grime scene, as well as hosting an accompanying no holds barred podcast on BBC Sounds, shining a light on what it’s like being a female artist in a male skewing industry, as well as addressing issues like image, social media and mental health.

First held in St Mary In The Castle in Hastings, then enjoying a quarterly slot at The Cockpit, London, EMERGENCE is back to the South Coast for a weekend at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill.

EMERGENCE grew out of The Cockpit’s contemporary jazz programming. For seven years Jazz In The Round has been proud to be part of London jazz, presenting, recording, and broadcasting the stream of evolving talent supported superbly by initiatives like The Total Refreshment Centre, Jazz Refreshed and Steam Down and running stages at Love Supreme, Kings Place, and The Roundhouse.

Like Jazz In The Round, EMERGENCE offers a time and space for players, artists, and audiences to come together for a dance-friendly weekend of events where people can meet, experiment, and make the right mistakes.
