This summer, the De La Warr Pavilion is thrilled to be partnering with artists ZEROH to present MASS, an exciting new one day event in celebration of Sculpture and 3-D art inspired by Tschabalala Self’s Seated. It is part of Bexhill Art Weekender, featuring local and regional 3-D artists showing and selling work. The day will include food, drink and music and will take place in the auditorium and outside.
Artists are invited to apply for a table and space to present their work alongside fellow practitioners in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the De La Warr’s auditorium. MASS has a unique and specific focus on the brilliantly wide and varied community of artists working in three dimensions, be it physically – using wood, metal, clay, found objects, 3D printing, fabric, resin, paper as examples, or presenting and creating work in the digital realm of augmented and virtual realities.

The De La Warr Pavilion has a rich heritage of public sculpture with Frank Dobson’s sculpture of Persephone, although unrealised, being a key element of the original design in 1935. Popular sculptures on the roof have included Antony Gormley’s Critical Mass (2010), Richard Wilson’s Hang On A Minute Lads I’ve Got A Great Idea (2012) Shaun Gladwell’s Mini Ramp Intersection (2013), Holly Hendry’s Invertebrate (2021) and currently on the lawns, Tschabalala Self’s Seated.
ZEROH, Daniel Hardiker and Neil Hetherington, have been working collectively as artists and spectacle/event instigators for over 25 years. In 2022 they set up the first art market in the iconic Bottle Alley on Hastings/ St.Leonards seafront, Bottle Alley Art Market (BAAM). The event is held on the August Bank Holiday Weekend, at the first three editions of BAAM 300 artists have sold and showed their work to over 25,000 visitors. BAAM has quickly become a highly anticipated fixture in the town’s cultural calendar.
