Saving Grace, the co-operative featuring Robert Plant and Suzi Dian (vocals), Oli Jefferson (percussion), Tony Kelsey (mandolin, baritone, acoustic guitar), and Matt Worley (banjo, acoustic, baritone guitars, cuatro) have today announced a full UK tour for April and May 2022 following a selection of live dates last year.
Since forming in 2019, Saving Grace have received numerous acclaims for their live shows including from Bob Harris who called it ‘One of the best gigs I’ve seen in years’ to Toni Woodward, Americana UK who perfectly summed up the ethos of the cooperative by saying: “…These five musicians have produced a supreme ninety minutes of music with considered interpretations of others’ compositions, ensuring they present an innovative exploration of the songs whilst maintaining their true essence. Furthermore, this odyssey has been undertaken in the spirit of appreciation, musicianship, and exultation: they truly are a band of joy!”.
‘…The songs they select are often sung in close harmony, often spiritual and accompanied, appropriately enough, with banjo and acoustic guitar, plus superb electric guitar and rock drumming as well. Even though there were thousands there, the band created an extraordinary level of emotional intensity and intimacy. It was a magical ending to Sunday evening.’ – The Evening Standard
‘…Their music was sublime, laid-back and bluesy with eastern and folk influences. Robert was in fine voice, Suzi’s vocals blended perfectly, as well as standing out and owning it in her own right. With warm harmonies from Tony and Matt … we couldn’t believe our luck!”’. – Ultimate Classic Rock
‘…Plant has obviously been having a ball travelling through our “remarkable land, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house or a sober person anywhere we’ve left”. …. The combined banjo and mandolin work of Worley and Kelsey – if it has strings attached, these two men can get something out of it…. I have watched Plant live in many incarnations, but I’ve never heard his voice sounding as comfortable as it did tonight, at home in the family he has created with these master musicians.’ – Hot Press
‘….And herein lies part of what makes Saving Grace so special. It’s the songs. In a word, they’re great. They’re great songs to start with, but this band (and it is very much a ‘band’, in no way a ‘victory lap’ platform for Plant) takes them to new places…. While you could hear the swampy origins, the magical thing is the way this set is rocked up and reworked with a mix of acoustic and electric guitars, banjo, mandolin and cuatro, all delivered with great depth and colour by Tony Kelsey and Matt Worley.
Kelsey makes up for the lack of a bass by playing some excellent baritone guitar. Oli Jefferson’s percussion is understated and everything this night needs.’ – Irish Examiner
