With guests Andy Dark, Debbie Golt, Ruth Gregory from RAR-RAP and Canan Batur from DLWP
Listen on Worldwide FM
2 – 4pm
Broadcaster Debora Ipekel is joined by the members of Rock Against Racism and Canan Batur on Worldwide FM ahead of their upcoming exhibition Rock Against Racism: Militant Entertainment 1976-82
This mix is collected and edited by Canan Batur DLWP’s assistant curator. It includes testimonies by Debbie Golt, Ruth Gregory and Andy Dark and highlights the sound of RAR. Hundreds of small local bands played RAR clubs and gigs, as well as big names like Aswad, Linton Kwesi Johnson, John Cooper Clarke, Au Pairs, Buzzcocks, The Clash, Misty in Roots, The Ruts, The Specials, Gang of Four, Steel Pulse, Tom Robinson Band and X-Ray Spex.
The result was a movement which raised the consciousness of a generation. Rock Against Racism takes over the second part of the show with records and spoken word.
