Cloudy, Partner is a new mural commission by artist Lauren Godfrey for the Rooftop Foyer.

Responding to the architecture of the De La Warr Pavilion, the painted work continues Godfrey’s engagement with the Pavilion and Bexhill beyond the end of her exhibition Group Hat in September 2019. The mural combines structural elements of the Pavilion with a motif inspired by a 1933 embroidered fabric by the Italian designer and architect Gio Ponti, as well as Godfrey’s signature colourful and imaginative style.

Lauren Godfrey’s work spans sculpture, performance, film and printmaking, often in collaborative interactive work. Her reference points – which include hieroglyphs, Seinfeld, Nigella Lawson and Henri Matisse – are both accessible and humorous, creating works that fuse high- and low-brow, past and present, crude and tasteful.
