The De La Warr Pavilion is delighted to support the Hastings and Bexhill bid to be UK City of Culture 2017 and urge all our friends and supporters to do the same!

The re-opening of the Pavilion in 2005 was always intended as a catalyst for cultural regeneration and the past eight years has seen significant investment the heritage and culture of the area via the new Bexhill seafront, Bexhill Museum and the Jerwood Gallery and Stade in Hastings, as well as the glorious cycle path that links the two. Bexhill’s role in London 2012, attracting international artists such as Richard Wilson and Eddie Izzard to the Pavilion, and thousands of visitors to the town,  is evidence that we can punch above our weight and really deliver when it comes to culture .

Collaboration is key to the success of this bid and we enjoy good relationships with our creative colleagues in Hastings, including those at the  Jerwood Gallery , Hastings and Sussex  Coast Colleges, Hastings Council, 1066 Tourism  as well as  many of the artists that work with us and audiences who visit.  Although different in so many ways,  the bid will emphasise the two towns’ natural talents for community–led, participatory events that are enjoyed by everyone.

The Pavilion is passionate  about unlocking the potential of the  rich and diverse cultural offer of the two towns to the benefit of the local economy and  we strongly believe that this once-in-a lifetime opportunity should be given our best shot.

So  let’s show the judges that we are up for it by liking this page on Facebook before 30 April when the first-stage bids need to be submitted.
