If you’re running a small creative business, it can often be hard to know how to take your business forward or who to turn to for help.

South East Creatives is an exciting new £5.1m grants and support programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund that aims to give small businesses and sole traders in the creative, cultural and digital sector the boost they need to grow and thrive.

Creative business hub on your doorstep

Along with Towner Eastbourne, the De La Warr Pavilion is a South East Creatives hub for East Sussex. We will be hosting workshops, knowledge exchange sessions, networking events and more – all aimed at nurturing, inspiring and showcasing our fantastic local creative sector.

Working alongside local programme co-ordinator Marina Norris  we will  bring you expert advice and guidance, professional development and the opportunity to learn from and share with your peers.

Funding opportunities
Grants are available through the programme to help your business grow.
Whether you’re looking to buy new equipment, get help with business start up costs, take on a new employee or launch a new website, South East Creatives might be able to help.

The programme offers match-funding to creative, cultural or digital businesses of between £1,000 and £20,000 for up to 35% of project costs.
Grants don’t need to be repaid but you will only qualify if you provide 65% of the funding from private sources and meet certain eligibility criteria.

Workshop and Mentoring Programme
Get free practical business advice and inspiration from industry experts on the South East Creatives workshops & mentoring programme. Delivered by Space Studios, workshops run over two consecutive Saturdays with follow-up 121 mentoring tailored to business needs and at a time to suit. Places are limited and subject to eligibility.

What is South East Creatives?

South East Creatives is the  name of the South East Creative, Cultural and Digital Sector Project (SECCADS).

It is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund Programme 2014 to 2020. The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government is the managing authority for the European Regional Development Fund Programme, which is one of the funds established by the European Commission to help local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support local businesses and create jobs.

The programme aims to support more than 370 creative, digital and cultural companies and sole traders across East Sussex, Kent and Essex and give a £2.5m boost to the area’s economy.

Who is South East Creatives for?

South East Creatives is a business development programme for small and medium sized businesses in the creative, cultural or digital sectors. This includes industries such as:

  • Advertising and Marketing
  • Architecture
  • Crafts
  • Design: Product, Graphics and Fashiom
  • Film, TV, Radio
  • IT, Software, Gaming and Computer Services
  • Museums, Galleries and Libraries
  • Music and Performing Arts
  • Photography
  • Publishing
  • Visual Arts

Businesses can be set up as limited companies or sole traders.

Is my business eligible for funding or support?

You will need to go through an eligibility check to make sure your business is eligible for funding, training or mentoring. You will then be introduced to Marina Norris, your local co-ordinator for the Rother and Hastings area.

Marina will meet with you to understand more about your needs and ambitions and advise whether funding, training or mentoring is the right route for you.

Can I only get advice or go to programme events if I get a grant?

No. South East Creatives aims to support creative businesses in lots of different ways including 121 advice, mentoring, professional development and knowledge exchange. You don’t need to apply for or receive a grant to benefit from the other support available.

Where are the South East Creatives hubs?

The De La Warr Pavilion is one of a number of cultural hubs across East Sussex, Kent and Essex who have been appointed to support the programme. Others include Towner Art Gallery, Creative Folkestone, Resort Studios in Margate and partners based in Thurrock, Southend and Colchester.
