Work Experiences are a key part of the programme.

ASSEMBLIES

Primary: Who Works Here?

30 minutes in school delivery-appropriate for year 4, 5 & 6

Looking at the types of jobs that you can have in the creative industries.

We explore 4 different creative organisations/companies, that the children will be familiar with identifying the jobs available. The aim of the session is to explore the wide range of jobs available in the creative industries.

Secondary: What is a Creative Career?

30 minutes in school delivery-appropriate for year 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11

An overview of the creative sector looking at the wide range of jobs available, growth areas and using data to bust myths around having a career as a creative!

Year 7 & 8 additions: *A look at the key skills that the creative industries need and ways to develop them *Identifying specific job roles in local creative organisations/companies *a brief look at the choices after school.

Year 9 additions: *Useful creative careers apps *Looking at options for GCSE and beyond.

Year 10 & 11 additions: *Useful creative careers apps *Looking at options after school *Getting work experience.

POST - 16: Getting started in a creative career

30 minutes in school delivery-appropriate for year 12 & 13

Looking at the wide range of careers available in the creative industries and the different pathways that can lead to them. Looking at some of the myths that people have around the creative industries and equipping the students to have ways to counteract these attitudes. We will look at the key skills that are essential to be successful, the need for experience-where you can find it and social media accounts to follow to find opportunities. We end by looking at how to declare yourself as an artist and putting together a professional online presence.

WORKSHOPS at your school

Primary: Who Works Here?

1 hour in class delivery-appropriate for year 4, 5 & 6.

We work through the content of the assembly in more detail, allowing the children to identify jobs that they would like. The workshop leads to a classroom display.

Secondary: What is a Creative Career?

1 hour in class delivery-appropriate for year 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11.

We work through the content of the assembly in more detail and support the students to identify what skills they have and the ones they need to develop.

*For year 7, 8 & 9 this is centred around the creative industries but can support students to explore how creativity is used in other sectors.

*For year 10 & 11 this focuses solely on the creative industries and will support the students to develop industry relevant CVs.

 

POST 16: Getting started in a Creative Career

1 hour in class delivery-appropriate for year 12 & 13

We work through the content of the assembly in more detail focusing on planning the next stages for students. Students will undertake a skills audit, consider how work experience could add to their CV, plan an professional online presence and complete an industry relevant CV.

A ½ day version is also available which includes a tour of a local venue and a Q & A with a local creative industries professional

WORK EXPERIENCES at the De La Warr Pavilion

Year 10

We offer week-long placements to students from Bexhill Academy, Robertsbridge Community College and St Richards with our Learning & Participation team which are facilitated through the East Sussex County Council Aspire programme to give a flavour of all the departments at the De La Warr Pavilion. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer placements for students from other schools.

Yrs 12 & 13

Exhibitions

One week working on install and de-install of exhibitions with the gallery technical team and supporting the curatorial team with administrative tasks related to the exhibitions.

A series of days/evenings to help give you an idea of what it is like to work on the range of exiting events we host here at the De La Warr Pavilion. You would sign up and would be added to the rota depending on what we have booked in the auditorium.

Ever wondered what is involved in being the director of an arts venue? This unique experience allows you to shadow Stewart Drew for a day to see what his job entails and whether this might be a career path for you.

Communications team

One day a week for the whole of the academic year working within our busy communications team helping to get out to the world all the fantastic things we do here at the De La Warr Pavilion. You will be working on a variety of marketing from print media, website updates, organising our You Tube channel to adding to our social media posts.

Live Programming Team

Get an insight into how the live events at DLWP are booked, advertised, advanced, and delivered in this opportunity to work alongside the live programming team for one week. You will be working during the day and during the events which mainly happen in the evening – exact timings will be agreed at the start of the week, but a typical day shift will be from 9am – 5pm and an evening shift will be from 2pm – 10/11pm.

WORK EXPERIENCE ACROSS EAST SUSSEX

Are you struggling to find creative industries placements for your students? We can support you to find creative businesses/organisations local to you and helping them understand how to set up a successful placement.

Do you have groups of students who would struggle in a work placement and need a bit more support? We can look at options for a supported placement for a group of students with a local creative business/organisation or even set up a placement in the school environment where the students work on a project
